Job Overview

The Business Head – Sales (General Trade) will lead the Bangalore region, driving sales and business development initiatives across the General Trade segment. Reporting to the Zonal Vice President, the role requires strategic planning, territory management, and team leadership to achieve sales targets and maximize distribution coverage. The role demands a seasoned FMCG professional with strong leadership, negotiation, and market analysis skills.

Key Responsibilities

Sales and Distribution Management:

  • Establish coverage, distribution, and display objectives aligned with the business plan.
  • Set brand-wise and pack-wise sales targets and monitor performance against goals.
  • Coordinate efforts between the sales team and channel partners to optimize territory coverage.
  • Analyze stock movement, maintain inventory control, and monitor financial performance.
  • Expand distribution channels and improve product visibility in traditional trade segments.

Market Analysis:

  • Conduct detailed market trend analysis and provide actionable insights to support strategic planning.
  • Monitor competitor activities and assess opportunities to gain market share.
  • Identify emerging markets and potential growth areas.

Business Development:

  • Spearhead the creation and execution of regional sales and activation plans.
  • Conceptualize and implement strategies to improve brand engagement and sales performance.
  • Evaluate effectiveness of promotions, offers, and discounts to enhance revenue.
  • Introduce innovative models to strengthen client relationships and market intelligence.

Team Management:

  • Lead, train, and mentor the sales team to achieve individual and collective targets.
  • Conduct performance reviews and provide feedback for skill development.
  • Establish travel plans, market contact schedules, and ensure compliance with reporting systems.
  • Drive on-the-job training programs to improve execution capabilities of team members.

People Management:

  • Cascade functional goals across the team and monitor achievement.
  • Resolve conflicts, coach sales managers, and maintain a high-performing culture.
  • Participate in recruitment to ensure timely staffing of the sales team.

Job Specification

Education & Skills:

  • MBA from a reputed Business School preferred.
  • Extensive experience in FMCG sales with expertise in General Trade.
  • Strong leadership, negotiation, communication, and team management skills.

Experience:

  • 12–15 years in FMCG, with at least 5 years in middle management or higher sales leadership roles.
  • Proven track record in sales strategy, distribution, and market expansion.
