About the Sr. Reservoir Engineer Role

The Sr. Reservoir Engineer will manage end‑to‑end reservoir engineering activities, from robust data acquisition and QC to interpretation, modelling, and optimisation. You will support key business decisions by delivering technically sound analyses and recommendations for field development, production improvement, and reserves growth.

This role is ideal for petroleum engineering professionals who are confident with complex reservoir datasets, simulation tools, and collaborative work within geoscience and operations teams.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Analyse reservoir surveillance data, identify data gaps, and drive improvements in data quality, monitoring practices, and technical report writing.

  • Plan and supervise MDT/DST operations, PVT sampling, and core quality data acquisition, ensuring proper coordination, interpretation, and documentation of results.

  • Carry out RCA, SCAL, PVT, PTA, well testing, and PDA analysis, integrating insights into reservoir performance evaluations and development plans.

  • Perform numerical dynamic modelling and classical reservoir engineering studies to understand reservoir behaviour, drive mechanisms, and development options.

  • Use reservoir engineering software such as Prosper, MBAL, PVT Sim, Eclipse, IMEX, OFM, Ecrin, and PanSys for simulation, forecasting, and performance analysis.

  • Conduct QC for all data acquisition, maintain high data quality standards, and prepare validated inputs for field development planning and internal stakeholders.

  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to provide key input data for monitoring operated and non‑operated wells, and actively participate in JV technical meetings to present company views.

  • Execute complex 3D simulation model studies, assess recovery factor ranges, and calculate recoveries using deterministic and performance methods for various drive mechanisms.

  • Calculate reserves and evaluate well/reservoir performance for conventional and non‑conventional plays, including coal‑bed methane gas reservoirs.

  • Recommend performance improvement measures such as recompletions, new drilling, and injection pattern changes, and help establish implementation plans and procedures.

  • Develop near‑ and long‑term production and reserve targets, track reservoir performance against these targets, and propose solutions when deviations occur.

  • Identify key reservoir engineering and geoscience factors influencing recovery factor, well count, and production profiles, including risk assessment.

  • Quantify reservoir engineering uncertainties using appropriate ranges and decision/risk analysis techniques.

  • Analyse well testing and flowback data to estimate reservoir parameters and support reservoir characterisation.

  • Handle special projects as assigned, demonstrating strong analytical, organisational, and communication skills.

Education Requirement

  • Minimum: B.Tech (Petroleum Engineering) / B.Sc. Engg (Petroleum Engineering)

  • Preferred: M.Tech (Petroleum Engineering)

A solid academic foundation in petroleum engineering is essential to perform advanced reservoir analyses, simulations, and performance evaluations.

Experience Requirement

  • Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience in Reservoir Engineering.

Hands‑on exposure to reservoir surveillance, testing, dynamic simulation, and use of the mentioned software tools will be highly valuable for success in this role.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong capability in reservoir surveillance, data analysis, gap identification, and improvement of monitoring/reporting.

  • Experience with MDT/DST planning and supervision, PVT sampling, core data acquisition, RCA planning and supervision, and preparation of detailed technical reports.

  • Proven ability to ensure rigorous QC of all data acquisition and maintain data quality for field development and decision‑making.

  • Collaborative approach within multidisciplinary and JV teams, with confidence in presenting technical opinions and company perspectives.

  • Expertise in complex 3D simulation studies, reserves and recovery estimation, and performance prediction for different reservoir types and drive mechanisms.

  • Strong understanding of conventional and non‑conventional reservoirs, including coal‑bed methane, and their production performance.

  • Ability to formulate and justify performance improvement recommendations and follow through on implementation plans.

  • Competence in risk and uncertainty analysis, with the ability to quantify and communicate key uncertainties.

  • Strong analytical skills, independent working style, effective organisational and multi‑tasking abilities, and clear verbal and written communication.
