About Apollo Tyres and the testing team

Apollo Tyres is an Indian‑origin tyre company with manufacturing plants in India and Europe and sales operations worldwide. Around 160 employees work at the Global R&D facility in Enschede, developing new car tyres for the Apollo and Vredestein brands and supporting global test activities. The Testing department handles prototype tyre evaluation both indoors on dedicated test machines and outdoors on specialised test tracks across and beyond Europe, making this internship a strong fit for students interested in real‑world vehicle dynamics and tyre testing.

Objective of the assignment

Wet grip is a critical safety parameter that directly impacts braking distance, cornering stability, and vehicle control in wet conditions. This internship aims to deepen understanding of how wet grip is influenced by:

  • Tyre properties, including tread design and compound behaviour.

  • Road surface characteristics, particularly asphalt texture and macro/micro‑roughness.

  • The reliability and repeatability of laser scanning techniques used to characterise road texture and correlate it with wet grip performance.

Key tasks and responsibilities

During this internship, you will:

  • Identify and structure the key influence factors for wet grip performance under different wet road conditions.

  • Analyse the role of asphalt surface properties, including texture, porosity, and drainage, on tyre–road interaction.

  • Evaluate the reliability and repeatability of laser scanning measurements used to map road texture on test tracks.

  • Support the testing team in designing experiments or analysis methods that link measured road characteristics with wet grip outcomes.

  • Work with data from indoor and outdoor tests, interpret results, and propose improvements in measurement or analysis methodology.

  • Summarise findings in clear presentations and reports for PV Testing & TMD and other R&D stakeholders.

Candidate profile

  • Education: Enrolled Bachelor or Master student. Fields such as Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Applied Physics, Data Science, or related disciplines are suitable.

  • Preference for candidates with an interest in Automotive/Business Administration and the interface between technical performance and project/innovation management.

  • Strong communication skills in English; knowledge of any additional language is a plus.

  • Hands‑on mentality, curiosity about tyres, vehicle dynamics, and test methods, and willingness to engage with both lab and track‑based activities.

What Apollo Tyres offers interns

  • A dynamic, innovative internship/graduation environment in a global R&D centre.

  • International colleagues from many countries and disciplines.

  • Your own workspace within the Enschede office building.

  • Opportunity to visit different test tracks and see prototype tyre testing in action.

  • Internship allowance in the range of EUR 600–850 per month for a full‑time internship.

Additional details:

  • Start date: To be decided (t.b.d.), depending on candidate and project planning.

  • Nature of internship: Full‑time.

GrowInJob.com advice for candidates

  • Emphasise quantitative and analytical skills: Highlight coursework or projects in vehicle dynamics, statistics, data analysis, or signal processing, especially if you’ve worked with sensor data or surface measurements.

  • Show practical experience: Mention lab projects, FSAE/Formula Student work, or any testing‑related internships where you handled measurements, data acquisition, or experimental design.

  • Connect with safety impact: During interviews, link your interest in wet grip and asphalt properties to real‑world road safety and regulatory requirements, which shows broader awareness.

  • Clarify relocation and timelines: Be clear about your availability window for a full‑time internship in Enschede and any constraints from your university so that the R&D team can plan accordingly.
